Loteria Nacional Extra - March Spanish Raffle Rules

Similar to the Lotería de Navidad and Loteria del Nino, sorteo extraordinario raffles consist of 100,000 tickets printed with five-digit codes ranging from 00000-99999. The 100,000 tickets are printed in 10 copies and divided into ten shares to create a total of 10 million shares. 100,000 tickets * 10 copies * 10 shares = 10 million shares. In contrast to lotteries where players select their numbers, raffle participants purchase tickets with pre-selected codes. Depending on availability, players can purchase an entire ticket which contains 10 shares or opt to purchase individual shares. In a sorteo extraordinario, the premio especial (“special first prize”) is awarded to a specific share in a specific series of the first prize winning ticket. For example, ticket number 12345 may be the winner of the €1 million first prize (€100,000 per share), but the premio especial will be awarded to one of the ten shares in a selected series of ticket 12345. The selected share will receive an additional €4.9 million in cash prizes for a total win of €5 million.

Loteria Nacional History

Spain's official national lottery organisation, Loteria Nacional, was established by King Charles III on 30th September 1763, and held its first draw, Loteria Real (or Royal Lottery) on December 10th the same year. This soon became the popular La Primitiva number game draw that Spanish lottery fans know and love today.

In 2012, the Loteria Nacional celebrated 200 years of raffle lottery tradition and entered its third century with a calendar year packed full of huge raffle draws. The first Loteria de Navidad draw evolved side by side with the Spanish republic; the Spanish constitution was signed in Cadiz in 1812, and the same city and year saw the first Spanish Christmas Lottery raffle draw launched to help play for the fledgling republic’s expenses.

The Sorteo Especial del Cáncer is in honor of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC). With over 60 years in existence, the AECC is dedicated to funding cancer research and provides social and psychological assistance to those affected by this disease, and once a year the Loteria Nacional honors the vital work that this Association does.
